Coalition for a Safe San Francisco (Current)

Mission Statement: The Coalition for Safe San Francisco is a grassroots alliance dedicated to protecting the civil rights and civil liberties challenged by overbroad national security policies. These policies have historically impacted communities of struggle and today are disproportionately targeting South Asian, Arab, and Muslim Americans. Our Coalition seeks to end racial, religious, and ethnic profiling and harassment by local and federal law enforcement agents in the City and County of San Francisco through community organizing, education, and policy and legal advocacy.

AROC works with the Coalition for a Safe San Francisco (C4SafeSF) to ensure the civil and human rights of SF community members are met.  We are currently organizing the below hearing.  More information can be found at www.safeSF.org.

SF HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION HEARING

As a member of the Coalition for Safe San Francisco, the Arab Resource and Organizing Center is helping sponsor an important hearing of the City of San Francisco Human Rights Commission : "Community Concerns of Racial and Religious Profiling, Surveillance of Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian Communities and the Potential Reactivation of SFPD Intelligence Gathering."

Thursday, September 23, 2010
6:00 PM in SF City Hall, Room 416

Community testimony will help build a case that will be presented to lawmakers and Congress about taking tangible steps toward recognizing and ending racial and religious profiling of our communities, particularly in the context of National Security policies.

HOW TO HELP

We are looking for community members to testify about their experience of being profiled or spied upon because of their race, religion, political activity or national origin.

If you have experienced any of the following:

- intrusive questioning or detainment while traveling
- visits or approaches from the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation)
- felt discrimination by law enforcement

Or if you were a victim of the 1993 SFPD Spy Scandal...
