تحيّات طيّبة وبعد،

 والربيع العربيّ يصل إلى نهاية عامه الأوّل نتمنّى أن تصلكم هذه الرسالة مصحوبة بمشاعر الأمل نحو مستقبل يعد بإمكانيّات جديدة وللمسلمين من أعضاء جاليتنا، نتمنّى لكم ولأحبابكم عيدا سعيدا.

يأتي هذا العيد بمشاعر الأمل لأحمد. وصل أحمد إلى الولايات الأمريكيّة المتحدة ليبدأ حياة جديدة بعيدا عن الاضطهاد في بلده اليمن، يتطلّع أحمد بشوق نحو اليوم الذي يتحد مع عائلته في الولايات الأمريكيّة بعد هذا الفراق القسريّ. وجد أحمد طريقه إلى المركز العربي للمصادر والتدريب (إيروك) في شهر كانون ثاني، لم يكن يملك يومها إقامة قانونيّة ولم يتحدث الإنجليزيّة، أمّا الآن، وبعد عشرة أشهر، نجحنا بالحصول على حال اللجوء القانونيّ له، كما أقرّ طلب عائلته وسيجتمع أخيرا بهم هنا في سان فرانسيسكو.

أحمد واحد من العديد من الأشخاص الذين حصلوا على المساعدة القانونيّة من المركز العربي للمصادر  والتدريب والتي أهّلتهم ليكونوا أعضاء أكثر فاعلية ضمن جالياتهم. لعلّك ترى أو ترين قصّتك هنا، أو قصة عائلتك؟ يقدّم المركز خدمات قانونيّة مجانيّة في شؤون الهجرة منذ أربع سنوات لسكّان منطقة سان فرانسيسكو وذلك لمائتي شخص سنويّا! أي مئات من قصص الأشخاص والعائلات التي مُنحت خدمات مجانيّة بالعربيّة للاتّحاد مع عائلاتهم، أوالحصول على حال إقامة قانونيّة، أوالتقديم للجوء السياسي، أومحاربة التسفير.

نرى دورنا، في المركز، في تلبية حاجات أعضاء جالياتنا المباشرة وفي تطوير قيادات الجالية أيضا والعمل نحو خلق تغيير إيجابيّ أكثر استدامة. بناء على ذلك، أطلق برنامجنا الشبابيّ، برنامج تنظيم الشباب العرب (أيو)، حملة بعنوان تراث: تعليم صورة العرب وفهمها عبر التاريخ.

وجدت إحصائيّة، قام بها برنامج الشباب شملت 350 طالبا من منطقة سان فرانسيسكو، أن 71٪ من الطلاب لم يحصلوا على أيّ شكل من أشكال المعرفة في صفوفهم حول تاريخ العرب وثقافاتهم.

إن عشت طفولتك في الولايات الأمريكيّة المتحدة أو إن كان لديك أطفال في البرامج الدراسيّة المحليّة، لعلّك على علم بالصور النمطيّة التي يتم تدريسها عن العرب وآثارها السلبيّة على الطلاب الذين يصبحون، على إثرها، موضوع سخريّة واضطهاد عرقيّ. أنا متأكّدة من إمكانيّتنا الاتفاق جميعا حول الرغبة بتغيير هذه الحال لطلاب المستقبل. يعقد الطلاب العرب المحليّون، عن طريق حملة برنامج الشباب، ورشات عمل في المدارس والجامعات، ويصممون مناهج جديدة، ويعملون مع منظّمات أخرى من الجاليات المتعددة الأعراق لتطوير الدراسات العرقيّة لجميع الطلاب. المعاناة ليست محصورة على طلابنا.

يسرّنا إعلامكم بحملتنا لتيسير الوصول إلى مصادر لغويّة. ستساعد هذه الحملة المتحدثين باللغة العربيّة ممن لديهم مهارات إنجليزيّة محدودة على الوصول إلى المصادر والخدمات اللغويّة المهمّة من مثل الحصول على الدعم

لأولادهم في المدارس، والحصول على رخص قيادة، والترجمة المناسبة في المستشفيات. كما هو معلوم فالقدرة على التواصل قد تكون مركزيّة في التأثير على جودة الحياة ويمكنها نقل جاليتنا من موقع اضطهاد إلى موقع قوّة.

يستجيب المركز لحاجات جاليتنا، أشخاص مثلك يأتون إلينا للحصول على الدعم المجتمعيّ، أو للانخراط في المجتمع وخلق تغيير إيجابيّ. لعلّك وجدت الإلهام في الربيع العربي أو في احتلال سان فرانسيسكو أو أوكلاند، أو قد تكون ناشطا أو ناشطة في مجتمعك منذ سنوات طويلة. نعمل على النهوض بقيادات مجتمعيّة جديدة بين الشباب والكبار للعمل على تحقيق تغييرات اجتماعيّة إيجابيّة أوسع، وجلب حسّ العمل المجتمعي من بلداننا الأصليّة لوطننا الجديد في منطقة سان فرانسيسكو.

نطوّر برامجنا في المركز اعتمادا علي حاجاتك، وحاجات مجتمعاتنا الممتدة، ونأمل من أشخاص مثلك المساهمة في عمليّة التنظيم حتى نحقق انتصارات أكبر. اليوم، نتطلّع إليك لمد يد العون في هذا العمل المهم.

As a member of the Coalition for Safe San Francisco, the Arab Resource and Organizing Center is helping sponsor an important hearing of the City of San Francisco Human Rights Commission : "Community Concerns of Racial and Religious Profiling, Surveillance of Arab, Middle Eastern, Muslim, and South Asian Communities and the Potential Reactivation of SFPD Intelligence Gathering."

Community testimony will help build a case that will be presented to lawmakers and Congress about taking tangible steps toward recognizing and ending racial and religious profiling of our communities, particularly in the context of National Security policies.

HOW TO HELP

We are looking for community members to testify about their experience of being profiled or spied upon because of their race, religion, political activity or national origin.

If you have experienced any of the following:

This resolution was authored as a result of over 50 people showing up to the Board of Supervisors meeting with just 24 hours notice to demand the board take a stand. Over 20 community members gave strong and moving testimony emphasizing the importance of our local government taking a stand on international human rights issues, in particular those that impact our local communities.  Among those present were two Bay Area residents who were onboard the Freedom Flotilla.

There has been overwhelming support for the Board of Supervisors taking a stand on this issue, and we are inspired by their proposal of a resolution to address the concerns and needs of San Francisco communities.  In addition to the many who came to testify in support, over 30 organizations have also endorsed the SF Supervisors taking a stand on such a critical and timely issue.

There is much more work to be done to get this historic and necessary resolution to pass and we need your support. Please read more for ways to support this resolution.

In addition to your support, we also ask you to get others to do the same. Spread the word and get confirmations!

If 800 people can join this humanitarian mission, using their personal funds to join the trip, taking several weeks off of work, and sadly, risking their lives to address the human rights crisis in Gaza, we are asking you to take a few simple actions to support them!

My name is _________ and I am emailing you to express my support for the resolution condemning violence against civilians on the Gaza Freedom Flotilla, and to ask you to join a global movement for human rights and vote YES on this resolution.  As you know, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is one of the worst in the world, and it is our responsibility as Americans to speak out against it, and support those who work to improve conditions for the civilian population.  I am appalled that the Israeli government responded to humanitarian aid workers by attacking in international waters and killing 9 of them and capturing nearly 800 including several Bay Area residents.
